Recently I had the pleasure of having a pet photography photo session with Mandy, a mini Australian Shepherd. Mandy lives at a beautiful Scotts Valley home with her family. She was easy to photograph, very calm, and loved treats. Usually I pick a park for the photo session, but the back and front yards of the home was very large with lots of spots to choose from.
This time of year can normally be quite wet and so far the weather is a mix of rain days and beautiful warm days. Our originally scheduled date was rained out but it was a lovely day on the date we picked. Weather apps are great to look out many days ahead for planning photo session dates.
We started off with just Mandy. She smiled often. Loved her blue eyes and the blue tint in her fur.
Time for Nila to give us some great looks with Mandy. What I loved about these images are the expressions and how the first 2 Nila and Mandy were in sync.
Next we added Gunner to the mix.
Out in the upper section of the yard is a gazebo with a deck that overlooks the rest of the yard. With three subjects and angles, try as I could, incorporating the lower yard into the shot wasn’t possible, so we have some of the forest trees in the background for a nice green blurred background.
Next we capture Gunner and Mandy on the lower patio.
The kids are done and now its Mandy’s turn for some solo posing.
The colors of the chair cushions go so well with Mandy’s coloring.
Time to move to the front yard, it’s late afternoon and we have shade.
In the front, there is a mini river bed. I found a great angle to incorporate the rocks and the plants. This required me to lay on the ground for a super low angle and I got the look I was going for.
It’s been a long photo session for Mandy and she’s done.
