Dallas, Harley and Stella Dog Photo Session

Kelly learned about my pet photography business when she saw my display at Dr Dave’s Daycare, Boarding and Grooming in Campbell.

This is the current display.  A few times a year, three new day care dogs are photographed, printed on 12×18 thinwraps and displayed for everyone to enjoy.

When the decision is made to signup for a pet photo session, I send out questionnaires.  One question is to learn how each dog will respond when first meeting me.  The response for Dallas was he might be aggressive, so a phone call clarified that he might be protective of the yard.  Its important to understand the temperament of each dog so I can approach and work with them appropriately.  When I first met Dallas he was barking at the front gate, but I brought some treats and he was quite happy about that.  Reality showed that he is very friendly and sweet dog.

Kelly took her pups to Dr Dave’s a day or so before the photo session.   When I arrived at the park for the session, Stella, black lab mix, was decked out with earrings and a pearl necklace, while Dallas, Australian Shepherd, was groomed with a full body length blue mohawk.

Several of my recent clients have Australian Shepherds and I enjoy photographing them.  I love their eyes and they give great expressions.

Next we have Harley, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He’s the oldest of the trio and not wild.  He’s happy hanging out on the couch and the bed.

Stella was super friendly and a little on the wild side but over time she became more calm and as Madonna said “gave good face”.

The park I picked is usually calm and peacefully in the redwood forest and very few people.  However, when I arrived there was a 1/2 marathon scheduled.  Oh oh, distractions.

Patience is stressed to each client and we make plenty of time to photograph the group and individuals at multiple spots.  A couple locations were not possible with all the people, but I found a nice place in the trees and we worked on one of the group shots.

We decided for my very special location at this park that Dallas would be the subject.  I’ve been wanting to do this shot for awhile and figured out how to accomplish my vision and today I delivered this gorgeous 16×20 metal print.  It looks fantastic printed large.

When I do the pre-session consultation I bring samples of the products I offer.  Kelly, having seen the display at Dr Dave’s, thought she would want the same thinwraps, but once she saw the large metal print sample I brought, she knew what she wanted.  Metal prints are a very popular choice.

During the photo reveal visit, after the favorite photos are selected, I provide a complimentary wall design service.  I take a photo of the wall and we play with arrangements and can try different favorite photos.   She selected this arrangement, which is very common choice when I’ve photographed a pack of 3.  All metal and it looks stunning. attachment
