For the 3rd year, I was a volunteer photographer at the Humane Society Silicon Valley Fur Ball. Its a super organization, with super people and a fantastic facility in Milpitas. If we didn’t have a pack of rescues already, we’d have adopted more, so he “says”.
The last 2 years I’ve brought my portable studio setup to photograph the guests, who purchased top tier tables, and their dogs.
The first year at the Fur Ball, while there were plenty of pups there, I expected to see more. I chatted with some people and their pups are not well behaved in this setting with so many people. I don’t think any of my pack would do well there.
This year was special. A wonderful client, Barbara, from last year contacted me to come to her home and photograph Alice. Alice was a “foster failure” from HSSV. When I was photographing Archie and Lacey last year for their portrait session at the park, Alice was living with them, but at that time Alice was being fostered. I made a comment that I just knew Alice would become a permanent member of the family. I was RIGHT!!!
Alice was going to be profiled as a foster success during the keynote presentation and a photo of Alice with the rest of the family was needed for the slideshow.
Alice is the Rat Terrier on her “mom’s” lap. Archie is on the left and Lacey is on the right. Rescue kitty even made a short appearance.
During the event, I visited Barbara at her table and met her friends. One couple was Vickie and Larry who were the high bidders on my auction item of portrait session & large canvas 2 years ago. The following year, Barbara was the high bidder and that is how I came to photograph Archie and Lacey and eventually Alice.
Here’s one of Tucker.
Finally, here are the some of the guests with their furry family members. Some brought their “well behaved” dogs – guess which photo that is!
